Mike Currington

H.O.P.E. Recipient

Born and raised in Warren, his family includes his wife, daughter, two stepsons and a Little through the “Big Brother, Big Sister” program. A 23-year veteran of the Warren Police Department, he has been a part of its patrol division, COPS (Community Oriented Police) Division and currently serves as SRO (School Resource Officer) at Warren G. Harding High School.

During his tenure he has spent approximately 10-years in the Detective Bureau investigating crimes against children and is on the Trumbull County Rape Crisis Board, both experiences that have helped him better serve students in his current work environment.

Mike is always willing to go the extra mile for anyone, bringing clothes and shoes to school for kids or just bringing them a snack. Mike also participates in the Polar Plunge every year at Mosquito Lake as they plunge into the freezing water to raise money for Special Olympics.

He has been involved as a “Bigs and Blue” for the past two years, which is a division of the Big Brother Wrap Around program. Mike has been a role model to a 4th grade student that has had a troubled past. He will take him to lunch, attend sporting events and whatever this young man will need to improve his quality of life. Mike just recently purchased this child a bicycle.

Mike continues to bring clothes and shoes to school for the kids or simply brings them a snack. He was asked, “Why the food for the kids?” His response was, “This might be the only thing that these kids eat for the day!” Mike recently cut his hair on a bet with a few of the high school kids. They challenged him to sport a “man bun” because they wear it better. Mike gladly accepted this challenge.

He’s known as a kid at heart, a gentle giant and “Dad” to the many students at WGH High School, he’s always finding a way to get involved with the community one way or another.
