Approximately 27% of U.S. children live with chronic health conditions that can affect their daily lives and normal activities. These maladies often contribute greatly to school absenteeism and require continual medical attention.
Ten to twenty million children and adolescents in the United States have some form of chronic illness or disability.
National All for the Kids Day
Chronic and terminal illnesses impact the lives of tens of thousands of children daily in the United States. These conditions affect not only the everyday life and activities of a child but present challenges for parents, siblings, families, and friends. Children with chronic and terminal illnesses also require extensive therapies and medical care all of which can come at a great cost, to families financially and emotionally. All for the Kids Day, a national day of recognition, provides hope and support for these kids and their families.
In an effort to raise awareness Anthony Spano, Founder & Executive Director of The Hope Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, saw the need for assisting these families right in the Mahoning Valley. But he knew that the need for assistance reached well beyond the valley. So Anthony joined with a national network of organizations, community leaders and legislators all sharing a mission to proclaim May 15 the National All for the Kids Day in March of 2016. In December 2016, Gov. John Kasich signed Ohio HB 580 into law, which included companion legislation offered by Senate Minority Leader Joe Schiavoni, D-33, establishing the National All for the Kids Day for May 15. How Does National All for the Kids Day Help?
By raising awareness on a local, state, and national level, All for the Kids Day focuses more attention on the pervasiveness of families who are struggling with serious medical conditions. By helping the National All for the Kids Day you will join with thousands of families and organizations across America that share mission work to provide assistance and support to families who require financial and volunteer support.
Anthony Spano and The Hope Foundation started the All for the Kids Day national movement with the goal that we will be able to generate increased community awareness and support for children nationwide.
A mom shared this story, “The day my daughter was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney disease was a moment of sheer terror and confusion. Everything I knew and believed was tested. Getting to soccer practice on time suddenly seemed trivial. Testing, medical procedures, medications, hospitalization, learning medical lingo and putting on that brave face for my child puts you in a place you never thought you would be. The fear of outcomes and the everyday anxiety tied to uncertainty can be debilitating. With the help of organizations, like the Hope Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, and All for the Kids Day, I know that there is a whole community of individuals and organizations that understand that my daughter, and kids like her, thrive when they know they are not alone and there are opportunities for support.”

How Can I Help?
Donate to the All for the Kids Day through the Hope Foundation to fund families and programs across the United States. (The goal is $15,000 to start.) Therapy programs, providing quilts for children, help ease the financial burden for families of cancer patients, and the purchase of technology to help autistic children improve their communication are a few examples of things we would help with funding.
