Benito Velazquez, Jr. was born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of parents who migrated from the beautiful island of Puerto Rico in search of greater opportunities and a better future for their family. The values of hard work, perseverance, faith, and community that they instilled in him have helped shape the person he is today. He is a proud graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and Youngstown State University.

Professionally, Benito serves as a Litigation Claims Adjuster for Allstate Property & Casualty, where he has built a career centered on problem-solving, relationship-building, and helping people navigate difficult situations with compassion and understanding.

Giving back to the community has always been important to him. Over the years, he has had the privilege of serving on numerous nonprofit boards and committee leadership positions throughout Mahoning County. Community service is not something Benito views as an obligation — rather, it is a passion. He firmly believes that we all have a responsibility to make our communities stronger and to help those who may need a hand along the way.

Benito is the son of Nercy Santana and the late Benito Velazquez, Sr., who passed away in 2020, and the younger brother of Betsy Velazquez. Family has always been the foundation of his life and continues to inspire him in everything he does.

When he is not working or volunteering, Benito enjoys baking, cooking, photography, and traveling. He loves exploring new places, learning about different cultures, and experiencing the history and traditions that make each destination unique. One of the trips he is most excited about is his upcoming visit to Italy, where he looks forward to exploring Rome, Venice, and Florence.

Many people throughout the community know Benito for another unique passion: his colorful and ever-growing sock collection. Over the years, fun and creative socks have become somewhat of his trademark. Whether he is attending a meeting, community event, or simply shopping at the grocery store, there is a good chance he is wearing a pair that tells a story — some feature holidays, landmarks, food, sports themes, or inspirational messages. One of his favorite moments is when someone stops him in public and says, “Let me see your socks!” What begins as a simple conversation about socks often turns into laughter, friendship, and meaningful connections. To Benito, socks are a reminder that even the smallest things can brighten someone’s day.

Benito is also a devoted coffee enthusiast, and Starbucks is his coffee shop of choice. On most weekends, you can find him enjoying a cup of coffee while spending time with friends and chatting with the many people he has met there throughout the years. What started as a simple weekend tradition has become an opportunity to build relationships, share stories, and stay connected to the community he loves.

Above all else, Benito believes in kindness. He is a strong advocate for peace, compassion, and treating others with respect. His personal philosophy is simple: you never know what the person standing next to you may be going through. Because of that, he believes a smile, a helping hand, or a kind word can make a lasting difference in someone’s life.

It is both an honor and a privilege for Benito to serve on the Board of the Hope Foundation. He wholeheartedly supports the organization’s mission and its guiding belief that “It’s All for the Kids.” He looks forward to working alongside his fellow board members, giving back to the community, and helping make a positive difference in the lives of children and families throughout the region. This opportunity represents a new and exciting chapter in his life, and he is grateful to be part of such an outstanding organization.
