The Hope Foundation of the Mahoning Valley awarded a $2,000 grant to Flying Horse Farms to help underwrite the medical costs of up to five campers from Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties. This gift benefits seriously ill children.
Flying Horse Farms provides transformative camp experiences for children with serious illnesses and their families – free of charge. Located on 200 acres in Mt. Gilead, Ohio, the camp hosts hundreds of children and families each year during weekend and weeklong camps. The children who attend camp have illnesses including cancer, heart conditions, rheumatoid arthritis, blood disorders, severe asthma, gastrointestinal disorders and craniofacial anomalies.
“Flying Horse Farms is treating seriously ill children for free while giving them a lifetime full of memories,” said Anthony Spano, founder and executive director of The Hope Foundation of the Mahoning Valley. “We feel that camp can have a great impact on a child’s life, because it allows them to do things that they may not be able to do at home or in their community.”
The mission of The Hope Foundation of the Mahoning Valley is to improve the quality of life for the community’s chronically and terminally ill children and their families through charitable support.
Spano says that at Flying Horse Farms being sick takes a backseat to being a kid. “Campers participate in activities like swimming, boating, fishing, archery, high ropes and arts and crafts,” he remarked. Campers receive first-rate care at a world-class, on-site medical center, staffed 24/7 by medical professionals from children’s hospitals across Ohio and the Midwest.
