This year, The Foundation will be presenting George Gabriel with the H.O.P.E. Award (Honorable. Outstanding. Philanthropic. Excellent.) for his lifetime achievement and contributions to the community. This prestigious award is given to someone who, for many decades, has donated time, money and resources to improve the quality of life for children and families in our community.  In his various positions with the Mahoning County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Gabriel has spent over three decades in service to disabled youth, adults and their families. He organized special community events such as a Valentine’s Dinner Dance, American Idol Night and Bike Night. Always the first to arrive and the last to leave, George was the driving force in getting things done, most often after a full day at work.  He is the founder of an annual softball game, giving everyone, regardless of his or her disability, a turn in the batters box.  He has also spearheaded many events for our veterans and has led a group of workshop participants in volunteer activities as Second Harvest Food Bank.

The event is sponsored by television stations WKBN 27 First News & 33 WYTV; radio station MIX 98.9; Komara Jewelers, Lamar Advertising Company and Minuteman Press of Youngstown.
