Will recognize Anthony Spano as a community hero
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers will recognize Anthony Spano, founder/executive director of The Hope Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, as a Community Hero presented by Kent State University Trumbull Campus because of his commitment to chronically & terminally ill children and the community as a whole. The minor league team will honor him on Saturday, August 27, when the Scrappers play host to the West Virginia Black Bears at 7:05pm. He will be will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.

Spano said he is humbled by this recognition but “the success of The Hope Foundation is due to the tireless efforts of volunteers and board members.” When informed of the honor he said that the support of the community is also a reason The Foundation has grown over the years. “People in this community have an unbelievable level of compassion for the kids and families we serve. They prove that with their donations of dollars and time.”
Anthony Spano is employed at Youngstown State University full time and serves as the Purchasing Coordinator for the university. The Hope Foundation is 100% volunteers and has no paid administrative staff.
